The following sites offer a variety of ways for students to organize themselves in a paperless way.  Some of these sites allow for collaboration, some are apps for iPads that also allow for collaborative work, as well as the recording of voice notes, photographs, video footage, websites and more.

Websites and Apps: Organizational Tools

Evernote

Mindnode

With Evernote, you can save your ideas, things you like, things you hear, and things you see.  Evernote works with nearly every computer, phone and mobile device out there.  With Evernote, you can search by keyword, tag or even printed and handwritten text inside images!

The Evernote family includes Skitch, Web Clipper, Evernote Hello, Evernote Clearly and Evernote Peek.  And it's free!

MindNode's focus and flexibility makes it the perfect brainstorming tool. The clutter-free interface lets you concentrate on generating and connecting your ideas, and an infinitely expanding canvas means that no matter how big or complicated your thoughts get, MindNode can keep up. MindNode can even automatically rearrange especially complicated mind maps to make them easier to read.

Smore

With Smore, you can create beautiful pages, instantly. Self-described as “beautiful by default and impossible to screw up” this looks like an awesome ‘one stop shop’ for publishing content online.  What I really like (apart from what seems to be a ‘standard’ drag and drop interface) is the fact that the content you produce on your computer will look exactly the same when you access it on your smartphone or iPad.  Smore pages could be linked to from within any of the other blog providers listed.  This could be great for one-off projects (the site markets itself as a ‘flyer creator’) or for young bloggers finding their feet.

iThoughtsHD

iThoughtsHD has a clean, well-organized user interface that is key to its functionality. It contains just enough toolbar icons to enable you to quickly capture your ideas, while more advanced tools for embellishing your map and its topics are cleverly hidden within several “inspector” buttons. That keeps them out of the way, yet they are only a few taps away when you need them.

Posterous Spaces

Posterous Spaces is the easiest way to share photos, video and ideas safely with family, friends and groups.

★ Easily control who you share with, every time.
★ Post anything – combine photos, video and text in seconds.
★ Follow friends and favorites, keeping up on their posts while commenting, liking and more on-the-go.
★ Create as many Spaces as you want (make them private or public.)
★ Automatically broadcast your public posts to Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and YouTube.
★ Create a Space for your group in minutes, letting everyone involved contribute.

Popplet

Great for school. Popplet is a platform for your ideas. Popplet's super simple interface allows you to move at the speed of your thoughts. With Popplet you can capture your ideas, sort them visually, and collaborate with others in realtime. Quickly and easily!

Corkulous

Corkulous is a multi-purpose app containing cork boards where you can place notes, labels, photos, contacts, and tasks. Group your ideas visually on one board or spread ideas out across multiple boards (sub-boards also supported). Each cork board has plenty of real estate to capture your best ideas and plans.

WallWisher

With Wallwisher, you get a (nearly) blank page (wall) and you put anything you like on it!  Perfect for making noticeboards, brainstorming, making lists, teaching, watching and sharing videos, bookmarking favorite sites, planning events, learning, keeping notes, discussing ideas and collecting feedback.
